6 important things to know about Quebec's new values test for immigration

The Quebec Immigration Minister has announced a new set of ministerial rules today, including the long announced Quebec values test, which will be an additional mandatory step for all aspiring immigrants to the province starting January 1st, 2020.

Quebec's immigration minister, Simon Jolin-Barrette, announced that all foreign nationals and their family members aged over 18 years old will have the obtain a passing grade in the "Quebec Values Test" as expressed in the Quebec Charter of Human rights and Freedoms.

The 6 important things to know about the Quebec's values test

1. The passing grade is 75%

The passing grade for the principal applicant and accompanying family members will be to have answered 75% of the questions correctly.

2. You can take a 24 hour course instead of the test

Immigration Quebec will hold courses teaching Quebec values to those that prefer not to take the test or to those that have failed it. The course

3. What kind of questions will be part of the test?

A sample of the questions that will be on the Quebec values test:

- In Quebec, women and men have the same rights and this is inscribed in law, true or false?

-What is the official language of Quebec? French, English, Spanish, English and French?

The french test will be available in French, English and Spanish with other languages such as Punjabi, Mandarin and Portuguese to be made available at a later time.

4. What happens if you fail?

If you do not achieve the passing mark of 75%, you can take the exam again after 2 weeks have passed since your last attempt.

You can also choose to take the 24 course instead of re-attempting the exam.

5. Who needs to take the values test?

Every applicant wishing to immigrate to Quebec who has a pending application on January 1st, 2020 should prepare to take the Quebec values test. This includes family members (accompanying) over the age of 18.

6. When can you take the test?

If you already have valid status in Quebec, you can start taking the 24 hour course before submitting your CSQ application. If you choose to take the exam, you can take it as soon as you have submitted your CSQ application.

You can take the Quebec values test as soon as your application for permanent selection is submitted (after an invitation in the ARRIMA portal or after submitting your PEQ application).
