BREAKING NEWS: Quebec Skilled Workers new regulations starting August 2nd, 2018

The "Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Diversité et de l'Inclusion (MIDI)" has released its new ministerial regulations regarding Quebec's skilled worker program which are set to come into effect on August 2nd, 2018.

We finally have confirmation that the Quebec Skilled Workers program , which includes the Programme de l'Expérience Québécoise (PEQ), will now rely on an "declaration of interest" application.

How does it work?

If you would like to apply for immigration through the Quebec Skilled Workers program, you have to start with a declaration of interest application showing your interest in establishing yourself in the province of Quebec.

Once your declaration of interest is submitted, the MIDI will have the power to invite you to apply for the Quebec skilled workers program, depending on if you meet the requirements of the program.

Your declaration of interest will be valid for a period of 12 months and once invited to apply for your CSQ, you will have 90 days to submit this application.

Quebec Skilled Workers points selections

The Quebec Skilled Workers program will still be based on a points-based system, with the minimum threshold for single applicants (50 points) and couples (59 points) remaining unchanged.

The two major changes in the points selection grid are the points given for your stay in Quebec and your validated job offer.

With the previous regulation, any workers or students who stayed in Quebec for at least 3 months could get 5 points in their application.

Under the new regulations, 5 points will only be awarded in these circumstances:

For validated job offers, the maximum amount of points awarded has now increased to 14 points.

PEQ (Programme de l'Experience Québécoise)

The declaration of interest application will also be a requirement for those who are looking to apply to the PEQ program.

Furthermore, spouses and common-law partners of study permit holders who have a valid open work permit are now eligible to apply for the PEQ program, as long as they meet all the eligibility requirements.

If you meet the requirements of the PEQ program, the MIDI will select you to apply for under the PEQ program.
