Recent Changes to the Québec Skilled Worker Program

The Québec Skilled Worker Program as of March 8, 2017 has gone through substantial change that all applicants should be aware of.

On March 8, 2017, le Ministere de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion (the Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion or MIDI) made retroactive changes to their Québec Skilled Worker program (QSWP) to meet the labor market needs of the province of Quebec.

Here are major changes that are affecting many applications:

  1. Points which are attributed to the area of training have been reduced. If you were previously assessed with 12 or 16 points, it has been reduced to 9 and 12 points respectively.

  2. Vocational or post-secondary technical diplomas are no longer granted additional points equivalence of a higher level. Previously, such diplomas benefited the same points for education as a bachelor diploma if the area of training was awarded 12 or 16 bonus points.

  3. The passing mark has been increased. A single applicant requires 50 points to pass and an application with two adults needs 58 points.

Don’t feel overwhelmed about the changes. Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations!
